Recap / Pokemon HAC 48 Round Two Round Up

Go To

With Lightning and Doc securing their position to advance in the tournament, the remaining contestants in round two hope to find similar success in their own matches.

  • Blood Knight: Downplayed example, but Peewee eagerly wants Twilight to use him in her battle against Applejack, due to having gotten excited from watchig all the other battles in the tournament and wanting to battle too.
  • Cliffhanger: By the end of the second round, the remaining contestants receive their next placement, in which Flash and Twilight are set to face off against each other next. In reaction, Flash gives an excited smile and Twilight nervously nods back, with the two friends getting ready to face off in the third round.
  • Dark Horse Victory: Twilight is largely viewed by the audience as the underdog to Applejack and the crowd expresses excitement that she ends up triumphing anyways.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Rainbow is called out on this, since she put herself at a disadvantage against Doc by purposly choosing Tank, who she knew was at a type disadvantage against Steeledge.
  • Graceful Loser:
    • Despite being opponents in the Hoof Cup, Twilight and Applejack amicably shake hands with each other, the latter happily conceding defeat to her.
    • When Flash beats him in the match, Thunderbass calmly summons his Electabuzz back to him and shakes hands with his opponent, congratulating him on the victory.
  • Innocently Insensitive: When Celestia and Luna commentate on Flash's growth as a trainer and his quick strategies, Spike and Peewee both note how they make it sound like Flash used to be some kind of idiot.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Peewee learns Incinerate.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: When Rainbow is called out for purposly putting herself at a type disadvantage against Doc, which contributed to her loss, she claims that most of the other matches had the winner be the one with a type disadvantage, so she thought it would work for her too. Fluttershy points out they all won because they had a strategy to overcome that disadvantage rather than winning because of it.
