The faceoff between Detective Looker, Mimi, and Essentia
Detective Looker intervenes when Essentia steals Poké Balls in the alleyways of Lumiose City. From the behavior of Mimi, an Espurr that is accompanying him, he deduces that it is really Emma, a young woman he had taken in, but was disappearing inexplicably.
This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
- Brainwashed and Crazy: Essentia is Emma in the Expansion Suit, an experiment being conducted by Team Flare member Xerosic, whom Looker is investigating. The game suggests Emma does not know what she is doing when she is in the Expansion Suit.
- Cliffhanger: The episode ends after Mimi frees Emma from the suit and Emma is confused by what’s happened, unaware of the things she did while under the suit’s control.
- Continuity Cavalcade: This episode refers to a side story in Pokémon X and Y.
- Hypno Trinket: Team Flare’s Expansion Suit controls the wearer and makes them do things they normally wouldn’t do on their own.
- Kick the Dog: A tragic example. When Mimi recognizes her mind-controlled trainer Emma, she rubs up against her leg and Emma’s response to literally kick her faithful Pokémon.
