Go To

Now You See Me, Now You Don't is the 4th episode of the 1st season of Pee-wee's Playhouse. Join Pee-Wee and the gang for the magic show. The magic trick makes Pee-Wee invisible. How long do you think Pee-Wee will stay invisible for?

Extra notes:

  • Featured cartoon: Smile Darn Ya Smile (1931)
  • Connect the Dots: Tree
  • Jambi's Wish: Pee-Wee becoming visible again.
  • Snack: Salad
  • The first time the salesman screams. The 2nd time was Monster in the Playhouse.

This episode provides the example of:

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Pee-Wee magically turns invisible in this episode. At first, he has a blast playing pranks on people, but when no one is able to spend any time with him, he learns that invisibility isn't all it's cracked up to be and starts crying.
  • Cut a Slice, Take the Rest: Mrs. Steve pulls this on a large chocolate cake she discovers while snooping in the (apparently)-empty playhouse. Pee-Wee, who's there but invisible, pranks her as she tries to eat the pastry.
  • Magic A Is Magic A: Discussed when Pee-Wee first wishes for Jambi to undo the invisibility spell. Jambi tells him that "it's not a good idea to mix magics" and explains that doing so is incredibly risky. Sure enough, Jambi's powers restore everything except Pee-Wee's head at first, and the genie needs to exert all of his strength to fully undo the hex.
  • Secret Word: Little
  • Something We Forgot: Jambi's powers reverse the invisibility spell on Pee-Wee...but the first incantation inadvertently leaves him headless. It takes another round of magic to get him fully back to normal.
