Arriving at the hottest volcano in Ninjago to destroy the Fangblades, Pythor reveals himself and swipes them. The ninja must stop the Serpentine before they reach Ouroboros and unleash the Great Devourer.
This episode provides examples of:
- Because Destiny Says So: Wu separates himself from the ninja to fight Pythor alone because he claims it to be his destiny.
- Cliffhanger: The Great Devourer is awakened as the Ninja watch in horror.
- Convection, Schmonvection: The ship is flying directly over an active volcano that is stated to be ludicrously hot but nothing indicates this beyond a complaint that it is mildly uncomfortable.
- King Mook: The Serpentine Express serves as one for the Fangpyre zombie vehicles.
- Rail-Car Separation: Wu separates the leading car from the rest of the train so he can face Pythor alone in hope of stopping him, forcing the ninja to stay behind as Wu and Pythor continue toward Ouroboros.
- Spoiler Title: With a title like "Rise of the Great Devourer", there really wasn't much of an alternative besides Pythor succeeding.
- You Can't Thwart Stage One: Pythor awakens the Great Devourer, who is ready for her attack on Ninjago.
