"Coming Out" is the 13th episode of New Girl.
After Coach finds a legal loophole that allows them to do so, Jess and Ryan reveal their relationship to the school, but Jess is immediately accused of nepotism when it becomes time to choose among the faculty's field trip proposals. Nick tries to keep Schmidt from working when he learns the latter has an ulcer.
Tropes in this episode:
- Anti-Nepotism: Jess is accused of favoritism when she chooses her boyfriend Ryan's field trip proposals, despite it being head and shoulders above everyone else's. She then chooses Lorenzo's terrible field trip idea to get them to back off.
- Scary Stinging Swarm: In the last act the school cast is attacked by a nest of bees. Coach and Jess end up with large, swollen marks on their faces.
- Shipper with an Agenda: Coach encourages Jess and Ryan to take their Secret Relationship public so the school nurse will pay attention to him again with Ryan off the market.
- Sick Episode: For Schmidt, who spends much of the episode plagued with an ulcer.
