While on a cruise, Jessica helps an old friend, now cruise line's security chief, investigate when a woman is found dead in the cargo area.

Tropes:

  • Big Bad Friend: Leslie Hunter, Jessica's former college roommate turns out to be "Amber", and while her friendship with Jessica is genuine, she shows no qualms in revealing that she's Evil All Along and attempts to shoot Jessica.
  • Chekhov's Hobby: Thanks to Mrs. Alma Sobel's kleptomania, Jessica discovers a key clue for the episode's murder—a lighter that carries the victim's initials and also happen to be the same initials as Jessica's. Becomes a Chekhov's Gag near the episode's end when she returns a pen to Jessica that turns out to be Mrs. Sobel's.
    • Capt. Rory O'Neil mentions that Leslie likes to go on epic showers that last for hours. This turns up important later.
    • Leslie mentions Capt. O'Neil is setting up a property in California with lots of antiques. This becomes vital later.
  • Chekhov M.I.A.: Agnes Lowry tells "Amber" at the episode's beginning that "After all these years, (she) thought Amber would be older." turns out, Amber is Leslie Hunter and Janet was merely posing as her, and that the real Amber is indeed an older woman.
  • Fanservice Extra: Since they're on a Caribbean cruise, there are plenty of women in bikinis walking around. And many of the male crew members are wearing shorts.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When Molly gets upset over Lance admitting he was in another woman's cabin to steal from her under the pretence (actually more than that, but he denies it) of seduction, he complains that she only thinks about herself.
  • Jerkass: Lance Brinegar not only cheats on his fiancée Molly Altrip, but was also cozying up to "Agnes Lowry" to steal her necklace. He also treats Molly shabbily and is rude to the steward.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: After having her pen and gold earrings stolen from her (plus the later motivation for the murder in the episode), Jessica notes that she's on a Ship of Thieves.
  • Living with the Villain: Capt. Rory O'Neil was a drug smuggler but had no idea that his girlfriend Leslie Hunter is the episode's murderer, who killed to protect his operation.
  • Revealing Cover Up: After worrying that his assistant stealing Jessica's earrings will gain too much attention, Roland returns them to her. Instead of doing it anonymously, he makes it part of his magic act, thereby all but confirming he was involved in the theft.
