Paranormal investigators visit a church in California where there have been sightings of a massive, winged creature over the last several years. The investigation takes a turn for the terrifying when the creature proves itself to be all too real.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Bittersweet Ending: On multiple levels—Hazel sacrifices herself to the Owlman, freeing Su-Ann from its torment once and for all, while the investigators give up their work from the trauma of the whole thing. However, reports of animalistic screams echoing from the forest continue, revealing that the monster is still out there and may well strike again someday.
  • Creepy Child: Su-Ann, a little girl being followed by the Owlman. She gets better after Hazel's sacrifice.
  • Driven to Madness: Hazel, an old woman in the area, ended up this way after being stalked by the Owlman pretty much her whole life. The one time she shows any real lucidity is just before her death.
  • Good Shepherd: The priest at the church is shown to be helpful and kind; it's implied that he's been allowing Hazel to reside there for her protection and he tries everything he can to keep the others safe during the climax.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Hazel gives herself up to the Owlman to save Su-Ann.
  • Nightmare Fuel Coloring Book: The investigators discover that Su-Ann had drawn a big, creepy picture of the Owlman in chalk on her driveway.
  • Ominous Owl: While it's debatable that the creature is actually an owl, it reportedly shares many characteristics with them, including large eyes, pointed ears, feathery wings, and somewhat humorously, the way in which it defecates.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Hazel spends the majority of her screentime teetering on the edge of hysterical madness. Right before her Heroic Sacrifice, however, she becomes eerily calm.
  • Wham Line: Courtesy of Hazel at the end, when the Owlman has everyone cornered in the church's altar...
Hazel: It wants the little girl because she's young and vulnerable... but so is an old woman.
