Circus Brat: What Jordan wants to be, as he plans on joining the circus, and he keeps training acrobatic tricks during his free time. One of these causes him to fall off a tree, kickstarting the plot.
Easy Amnesia: Jordan decides to fake an accident with his horse to let his parents think he recovered his sight from a second blow to the head. Before he can do that, he falls off the horse and hits his head again for real, conveniently forgetting everything since the first accident. His parents and Doctor Baker just assume the second blow brought his sight back.
It's All My Fault: Laura keeps blaming herself for Jordan allegedly getting blind, because she stayed to watch as he walked on the rope before falling and she feels like she encouraged him. Charles helps her understand it was nobody's fault and when she offers to help Jordan, he says she should help him as a friend and not out of guilt.
Obfuscating Disability: After falling off a tree while training to walk on a rope tied to the branch, Jordan pretends to be blind so as to convince his parents to not divorce.
Temporary Blindness: It turns out that Jordan was indeed blinded by the fall, but after his sight came back, he decided to pretend he was still blind to keep his family united.
