Ouch!

Delkin: Hey Oliver, what are you doing?

First comic: #897, 2023-10-27

Last comic: #903, 2023-11-10

Author: Viixa Takker

Delkin cheerily asks Oliver what he's doing. ("Not much.") Then he asks what he's doing again, 15 seconds later. Then he tells him that the world is constantly changing. Then he asks what he's doing again. This gradually gets more and more on Oliver's nerves — though the author's note on part 3 reveals he's particularly irritable because he got stung by a wasp earlier.

Finally, Holly stops by. Delkin asks what she's doing, and she replies that she's come to see Sonic the Hedgehog 3 with him. They walk away, and Delkin overhears Oliver mumbling something, including the words "Delkin" and "suck". All alone, his cheery demeanor drops.

Over where Oliver and Holly are, we hear that Oliver was actually saying: "Hey, did you get Delkin a ticket too? It would really suck if he couldn't see Sonic 3 with us." Holly nervously replies that she "forgot" to invite him. Oliver suggests they go back and get him, but Holly interrupts him: they've just hit the 7-comic limit, referencing how the Contribute states that story arcs are limited to 7 comics.note  The author's note for this final strip outlines Delkin's true intent:

"The fact that nobody, even years later, is allowed to continue a storyline once it hits 7 strips will forever doom Delkin to a life of not having confessed his undying love for Oliver while the Amy Rose introduction scene in Sonic 3 echoes his sentiments."

Strips:

  1. A 7 strip storyline: Part 1
  2. A 7 strip storyline: Part 2
  3. A 7 strip storyline: Part 3
  4. A 7 strip storyline: Part 4
  5. A 7 strip storyline: Part 5
  6. A 7 strip storyline: Part 6
  7. A 7 strip storyline: Part 7

This arc contains examples of:

  • Biting-the-Hand Humor: In the first strip, Delkin asks Oliver how he's doing, and Oliver says he's not doing much, then they both give an Aside Glance. The author note frames this as a commentary on the particularly barren strip buffer. (Indeed, there was a 3-week gap between the first strip of this series and the comic before it.)
  • Company Cross References: Delkin saying "The world is constantly changing" and expecting a reply about Pudding Pops references an infamous Running Gag on another mezzacotta site, Square Root of Minus Garfield.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Delkin is left heartbroken because he misunderstood what Oliver said under his breath.
