Recap / Leverage: Redemption S 2 E 10 "The Work Study Job"

Go To

The team works to expose a college professor who stole a student's research, but the victim's social anxiety and the complexity of her work hinder the team's efforts to prove who plagiarized who.

Tropes stolen in this job:

  • Almighty Janitor: Eliot makes friends with a security guard named Floyd, who introduces him to a council of low-ranked employees at the university such as janitors and groundskeepers. The council helps him detain and distract Gray to render him more vulnerable to the team's con.
  • Artistic License – Physics: Stochastic modeling is a thing... it's a routine thing. It's a thing assigned for homework. It's not a groundbreaking next step to clean energy. However, it's a thing assigned for homework to grad students, so it's not exactly common knowledge.
  • Character Development: Breanna initially sees no value in college, viewing it as a scam that saddles people with student loan debt for no benefit. After getting to know Emma better and seeing how passionate she is about her field of study, Breanna eventually decides that pursuing an education might not be the worst idea.
  • Jerkass: As if being a plagiarist isn't bad enough, Gray is rude to those he sees as beneath him, which is almost anyone and especially includes the college's lower-ranked employees. He even brings in dirty diapers from home to force the janitors to dispose of them.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Floyd lost a son in The Gulf War, which is one reason why Eliot can't bring himself to attack him.
