  • Bittersweet Ending: The brothers are proven innocent, get back into college and the real killer is dead, but the boys' mother dies of a drug overdose just when it seemed like she was going to go clean for their sake.
  • Category Traitor: The boys' mother is quick to accuse Fin of being one for arresting her.
Janelle Odami: (to Fin from the cage) Hey, Uncle Tom, what's it like in the house?
Fin: At least I ain't sellin' it! (to Chester) Damn, white, black, I'm gettin' it from all sides today.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Gang leader James "Jimmy Mac" Mc Donnell gets crushed to death in a garbage truck while begging for help.
  • Headphones Equal Isolation: The garbage man hears neither the screams of the victim nor the cops due to headphones he was wearing.
  • Let Off by the Detective: By the end it's known that the two brothers are genuinely innocent of most of the crimes, but Casey points out there's still the charge of an illegal use of a gun. Fin replies that the gun was "lost" being shipped back from the crime scene. Casey and Cragen see it for the lie it is, but go along with it. With no gun, the brothers get to walk away free.
  • Mistaken for Racist: The frat boy mentions that the only real reason there's an African American in their fraternity is because the Dean forced them to accept "the brothers". Fin is less than pleased, but the guy clarifies he means it was a pair of actual brothers. The Confederate flag on the wall and the guy proudly saying their founder is a descendant of Jefferson Davis didn't help.
  • Trash Landing: Used horrifically when a suspect jumps into a garbage truck to try and avoid Fin and Cragen. The trash compactor is turned on right after, and the truck's operator is wearing headphones and thus can't hear Fin shouting at him to stop the truck. The suspect ends up being crushed to death in front of Fin and Cragen while frantically screaming for help.
