When Stabler chooses to visit Kathleen's college as a guest speaker, one of Kathy's fellow students claims another student raped her. Both students are brought in for questioning, but the supposed victim's previous actions against the accused make the case for rape difficult. ADA Paxton, fresh from rehab, also returns to help with the case.
Tropes:
- Bittersweet Ending: SVU finally can arrest Chuck and make sure he's convicted. Unfortunately it's because the drug he used on his girlfriend to invoke a miscarriage eventually killed her.
- Forced Miscarriage: Chuck convinces Carla to try a new lubricant, without her knowing it contained misoprostol and would cause her to miscarry.
- Gone Horribly Right: Chuck's plan to have his girlfriend miscarry by drugging a lubricant works. In fact, she even ends up dying of toxic shock syndrome. The detectives arrest him for manslaughter.
- Lightswitch Surprise: The perp's girlfriend invites him supposedly to have sex and asks him to bring the "love potion" he used with her earlier. When he turns on the light he sees ADA Paxton instead.
