Recap / Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny S1E3 "Blade of the Red Phoenix"

Go To

Synopsis: Po and the kids are recruited to perform in Mei Mei's theatrical show, but things take a turn when Jindiao ruins the play in order to find a mystical scroll.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Defense Mechanism Superpower: Variant. Bao's chi powers are triggered when his sister and Jing are about to be crushed by a pillar. After that, he can form a chi tortoise shell at will.
  • Dreams of Flying: Po does this at the beginning of the episode.
  • Foreshadowing: In his dream, Po sees a red dragon fighting a yellow dragon. Later in the season, Po turns into a yellow dragon and fights Jindiao, a red dragon, in the Spirit Realm.
  • School Play: When Po and the kids take part in Mei Mei’s play (which isn't exactly a school play), Li is delighted, as he had missed all of Po’s school plays. The kid’s lack of acting skills (as well as commitment to the play) make it look like a school play.
  • Summoning Ritual: Jindiao uses an amulet to open a portal to the Underworld to summon the Yaoguai.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Fan Tong’s chi powers are triggered when the Yaoguai captures Nu Hai.
