Pete is poking around Hollow Bastion, Maleficent's former base of operations, where he is disappointed that she is nowhere to be found. As he begins to wonder if Sora and friends really did destroy her, her raven Diablo appears, indicating that she may still be around.
Meanwhile, Sora, Donald, and Goofy arrive in Hollow Bastion as well, where they find a town has been built. They spot some Heartless on a roof, so they make their way through the town. Along the way, they encounter Donald's Uncle Scrooge, who laments that he can't seem to recreate an ice cream recipe that he loves. They soon find Yuffie, who informs them about the world's new automated security system. The security system turns out to be necessary as a group of Nobodies ambushes them. After defeating them, Yuffie leads the trio to Merlin's house. Inside, they reunite with their other friends Leon, Aerith, and Cid, who have formed a "Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee" with the goal of restoring their homeworld to its former glory before the Heartless and Maleficent took over. Leon informs them that everyone had forgotten Sora, but just recently they suddenly all remembered him at once. Leon asks them for help dealing with the Nobodies and Heartless, and he has Aerith give them membership cards for the Restoration Committee.
After getting some help from Merlin with his magic, Sora heads for the bailey per Leon's request. Sora explains the situation with Pete controlling the Heartless and Organization XIII controlling the Nobodies. Suddenly two of the Organization's member call out to them and summon some Dusks. After Sora and Leon defeat them, the remaining Organization members (aside from the turncoat Axel) appear before them: members I (the Superior), II, III, VII, IX, and X. They taunt Sora and disappear, except for Number II, who cryptically hints at Sora's connection to Roxas before taking his leave. Sora's membership card for the Restoration Committee turns out to be the object which opens the gateway to the next world, allowing them to continue their quest. Meanwhile, in the Organization's headquarters, they meet to discuss what they think of Sora before being sent away by the Superior.
After leaving Hollow Bastion, Chip and Dale report that Twilight Town has mysteriously vanished from their radar. There's nothing Sora and friends can do about it for now, so their only option is to venture to the next world...
