Tropes:

  • Artistic License – Geography: Potential Czech membership in NATO is being discussed, although they already joined in 1999.
  • Call-Back: In addition to Greer, Jack receives help from Tony and Mike November.
  • False Flag Operation: The assassination of Popov is blamed by the Russians on the U.S., when in fact it was the Russians themselves. This is the first move in a plan to destabilise Eastern Europe in preparation for invasion.
  • Fugitive Arc: Jack dodges Greek police and Russian agents in Athens as he tries to gain traction in his investigation into Sokol.
  • Spotting the Thread: As a young Luka visits the dead scientists' families to notify them of their deaths, he receives a variety of responses, all highly emotional. The last woman, however, barely opens the door and is clearly eager for him to leave. Forcing his way in, he finds her husband in a back room.
  • Underground Railroad: Greer uses a contact in a Rome bakery to send $5000 to Jack in Athens. Wright is not happy when she finds out.
Wright: [Hands Greer pastries] They cost five grand, but I hear they're really good.
  • Unspoken Plan Guarantee: Seeing a SWAT team about to breach his garage, Tony calls Jack to a hiding place. The team search the place without finding him. After they leave, Tony lets him out from the pit under a car lift.
Tony: Jack... how are you with tight spaces?
  • Wham Shot: Jack texts his anonymous contact inside Sokol, demanding to know who they are. In Moscow, Luka Gocharov's phone buzzes.
