Recap / JFW Takeoff Ep 7 Get Ready For Setsubun

Go To

Miyafuji receives a care package from home in Fuso and decides to write a letter to send back to her family and friends in response. The Strike Witches celebrate Yeager's birthday.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Bullying a Dragon: Yeager and Hartmann throw beans to ward off "evil spirits" (aka Barkhorn) as a part of Setsubun. This naturally results in Barkhorn beating them to a pulp.
  • Imagine Spot: Eila thinks of getting married to Sanya.
  • Manipulative Editing: Yoshika writes a letter back home, but first it has to be handed in so that any classified or unfavorable information can be edited out. By the time it gets home almost the entire letter is blacked out, except a bit saying "The 501st is Wo nde r ful." with "wonderful" being obviously edited from four different words.
  • Stockholm Syndrome: Hartmann names this as the relationship between Miyafuji towards Barkhorn. Later she also namedrops Lima Syndrome for the way Barkhorn babies Miyafuji.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Yoshika receives a care package containing mochi from home. By the time it arrives in Europe, it is all covered in mould.
  • Too Dumb to Live: In order to eat the mochi Yoshika received, the Strike Witches scrape off the mould and then roast them in the fireplace. Yeager just eats the mouldy one.
