Harry begins to adjust to the world of Equestria, and has his first day of school in Ponyville.
Tropes that went to school include:
- Age-Appropriate Angst: Harry, like many children, is terrified of his first day of school. However, unlike most children, this is because of his Dark and Troubled Past; Dudley made sure that Harry was the least liked child in school, and he was completely friendless as a result.
- Cool Teacher: Cheerilee proves herself to be the first teacher Harry's ever had who wasn't biased by the Durselys' lies, and doesn't make him feel bad for not knowing about Equestrian geography, history, or mouth-writing. She even compliments him for his excellent mathematics skills and takes the time to teach him proper mouth-writing... while also telling Twilight that he needs time to play after school and not to make him study too hard.
- Culture Clash: Once again, Harry doesn't understand why the other students are horrified that he has scars on his flanks instead of a Cutie Mark. He's just embarrassed that everyone is staring at his butt.
- Mad Scientist: Twilight briefly dresses as one for her experiment with Harry.
- Mundane Utility: After his first time going downstairs as a quadruped ends painfully, Harry decides to become as good at teleportation as he can simply so he doesn't have to walk down staircases.
- They Would Cut You Up: Averted. While Twilight does perform a science experiment on Harry, she specifically built the machine so that the test would be non-invasive and mostly harmless (the worst that happens is a tickling sensation).
- Weird World, Weird Food: Harry is briefly put off when he sees that the salad he and Twilight are eating for dinner contains dandelions. He gets over this fairly quickly and realizes, to pony taste buds, dandelions are very tasty.
