• Bystander Syndrome: When Makoto has his little incident mentioned below, everyone just stands around waiting for someone to assist Sayaka in helping Makoto.
• Gut Feeling: When Makoto and Kyoko first meet Junko, they both think to themselves about how off Junko feels.
  Makoto: (thinking) Well, at least I know one person’s name now. Junko Enoshima… Of course; she’s like the most successful fashion model in all of Japan. It makes sense that a diva as successful as her would enroll here. Although…Why does she make me feel this sense of dread?
  Kyoko: (thinking) This Junko Enoshima…she needs to be watched…
• The Gadfly: When Makoto notes his and Sayaka's different positions in life, she pretends to be upset about seeming like a total snob to him. When he apologizes about the misunderstanding, she reveals that she was just messing with him.
• The Klutz: While everyone grabs their luggage and heads to the gymnasium, Makoto ends up tripping over his shoelace, falling on his face, and having all but his legs stuck in his own suitcase.
• You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: What Kyoko thinks to herself verbatim when she sees Makoto, having heard of him from the Akafuku case and from their early encounter.
