Sturm and Drang: A Mercenary's Life

First meeting as opponents during a revolution, Strum and Drang eventually found themselves working together as the Maelstroms of Discord, yet current situation had them lounging around without much work coming their way.

One day during a middle of an assignment as part of a certain crew's favor, Strum is mailed loads of letters regarding her future at the Mercenary's Guild.

Tropes

  • Don't Call Me "Sir": The merchant habitually calls Drang as "Master Drang", much to the latter's chagrin.
  • Exact Words: Despite throwing out all of his cargo, Strum and Drang are still paid for their efforts since their contract only said to protect the merchant, not the cargo.
  • Failure Gambit: The rebellion against Erste is never intended to work as a proper rebellion, they're just only doing enough to get the kingdom's attention toward their local issues.
  • Let's You and Him Fight: Because Strum and Drang are hired for a rebellion, the two are forced to butt heads with the crew.
  • Loophole Abuse: Because Sierokarte doesn't want to overstep her boundaries into mercenary territory, the crew suggests they ask Strum and Drag as a favor between friends, avoiding all the potential political issues and the commission fees Sierokarte is afraid of.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: As Herja scolds her mercenary group, she eventually realizes that mercenaries are not that different to skyfarers.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story:
    • One of the tasks the mercenary duo took on with the crew is to help a merchant and his cargo across the Grim Basin, only to find themselves attacked by monsters. Drang realizes that the monsters are attracted to the scent of the cargo and throws it all out after some talk with the merchant.
    • Donna sets up Strum to become the next head for the Mercenary's Guild. Strum's performance during the Erste rebellion and the reputation lost from it causes Donna to reconsider.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Sierokarte mentions that she has loads of requests lately, leading to the crew suggesting Strum and Drang on helping a few hands on some. She's hesitant on calling them since she expects the Mercenary's Guild to shoot down her requests and asking them directly is essentially a breach of territory.
