Hot Summer Fete! Eating Bonanza!

An increase of lumber jelly population affected Auguste heavily with their fishing industry taking a blow and tourism going down due to bad rumors about them. To combat this invasive species, Sierokarte decides to revive the abandoned eating competition with lumber jellies as the main course.

Tropes

  • Cheaters Never Prosper:
    • There's one competitor that hid some jellato in his clothes and threw it away after his elimination. He gets attacked by an enormous lumber jelly soon after.
    • Mash attempts to cheat in the finals by drinking a special drug that gives him insatiable hunger. Keyword "attempts" since Lucio swapped the bottle containing it before Mash could drink it.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: Justified as the main intention of the eating contest is to clean out the lumber jelly population, hence the excessive use of lumber jelly for the food.
  • Fingertip Drug Analysis: Lucio tests Mash's tonic by sticking a finger in the bottle and licking it. It's not until the end of the event that he reveals that it's a drug that affects a person's eating habits.
  • I Lied: At one point, the crew finds themselves thirsty and ask Lucio of a sip of the bottle he's carrying. While he originally said the bottle has gone past two years of its expiration date, he later comes clean saying that it's actually a drug that negatively affects the user's eating habits.
  • Introduced Species Calamity:
    • The appearance of lumber jellies negatively impacted Auguste's fishing industry and tourism, leading to the eating contest.
    • The infestation of the sharks is the underlying cause of the oyster's current aggressive behavior of eating lumber jellies and their hermaphroditism.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: At the final round, a deepflight oyster flies around and "disrupts" the competition. Disrupts is in quotes because the competition was already on hold due to a lack of food, which Amira and Redluck decides it's a good opportunity to restock by killing it.
  • Motive Misidentification: Lucio is only interested in the festivities and is mistaken to be a participant of the eating contest. He only went through with the first round because he didn't want to waste the food.
  • Near-Villain Victory: Before Mash could win the competition, he and Kolulu managed to empty out the entire food supply, putting the competition on hold.
