Recap / Fates Collide Ch 22 Speaking Up

Go To

Drake's ship lands on an island and everybody gets out. Drake tells a tale of Apocrypha's first hero. Long ago, Apocrypha was regularly raided by the Grimm until Heracles showed up and fought back. He was the mightiest of warriors, and inspired others to become heroes as well. He even fought twelve enormous, unique Grimm and defeated them. Emerald finds this story hard to believe, but Drake calls her out on doubting after the amazing things she had already seen. Anyway, after Heracles established a temporary peace and made sure there were many heroes to protect Apocrypha, he sailed away and was never seen again. Drake had been searching the seas and believes this island may be his final resting place. There is a chance his weapon is still intact, and bringing it back will do wonders for Apocrypha's archeology division and make them all rich.

The group fans out to search the island, but Nora is still depressed. Ren wonders what is wrong with her, and Kiyohime tells him it's probably nothing. Frankenstein stops the two and tries to talk to them, but they can't understand her grunting language. Fran gathers herself, then starts talking in English, though it clearly takes a lot out of her. She tells them Nora is in love with Ren and the two of them hurt her. He is incredibly shocked, then Kiyohime tells him to go on ahead. She angrily asks Fran why she is trying to ruin her happiness. Fran says she ruined Nora's, but she retorts that Nora is a fool who wasted years of opportunities to confess to him. She loves Ren and she is not letting him go. She flashes back to her first love, who abandoned her for another girl, then he and the girl were killed by Grimm, and says Ren would never lie to or abandon her like he did. Fran flashes back to her first love, who abandoned her while calling her a freak and a monster. Fran says no one should experience what they felt, and Nora deserves a chance to talk to Ren and let him choose. Fran is exhausted from speaking so long, and Kiyohime is sad.

Drake calls everyone over, showing them a stone ax-sword the size of a person that has been embedded in a boulder like the Sword in the Stone. It matches the description of Heracles' weapon, though Drake is disappointed that it doesn't have any gold or silver on it. She asks Nora to blast the boulder apart, but Nora is still depressed and doesn't have her head in the game. She fires her grenade launcher once and misses, then fires again and hits it, freeing the sword. Before they can collect it, a crash is heard, then Robin Hood spots several trees being knocked down. They ready themselves, then a massive man almost three meters tall bursts out of the forest. His skin looks like lead and he has red eyes and shaggy brown hair. He only wears a metallic kilt and ankle and wrist guards. He gives an inhuman roar.

He lunges at Emerald, but Drake pulls her out of the way and shoots him in the face, but the bullets bounce off. They all fire their weapons, but they have no effect. The man knocks Fran out and grazes Ren's arm with a punch, injuring it. They scatter and hide behind the many boulders littering the area. The man picks up the ax-sword and begins to smash the boulders one by one. Drake whispers to Emerald that the man matches the description of Heracles, though if it is really him, she has no idea how he is still alive after all these centuries.

Neo texts Emerald and tells her to use her Semblance to evacuate everyone one by one. She activates it, making herself invisible to Heracles' eyes, though it is difficult to affect his mind for long. She walks out and reaches Ren, then they slowly inch their way to Robin, who was the farthest away from Heracles and reached the forest. The strain of maintaining the mental illusion takes its toll and her nose bleeds, then Heracles starts to notice them. Ren activates his own Semblance to calm them both of negative emotions, easing some of Emerald's burden. They reach Robin, but watch in horror as Heracles is about to smash the boulder Drake was hiding behind. Jekyll throws his knife to get Heracles' attention as he and Neo come out of hiding. Heracles attacks them, but ends up hitting nothing as Neo used an illusion of them as a decoy while they reached the forest. Drake runs while Heracles had his attention on them and reaches the forest.

Kiyohime suddenly comes out of hiding and declares she will never forgive him for hurting Ren. She transforms into her flaming dragon form and traps him in a flaming tornado, but he breaks free and grabs her by the throat. She returns to normal as she gets choked out. Ren tries to run to her, but Robin holds him back, pointing out he'll just get himself killed. Nora suddenly blasts him in the arm, making him drop her, then goads him into chasing her. The others run up and pick up Kiyohime, but turn to where Frankenstein was and she is not there.

Nora stops running and swings her weapon in hammer mode, but Heracles catches and crushes it, making an explosion that knocks her senseless. He emerges from the smoke and prepares to kill her, but Frankenstein jumps on his back and tells her to run. He bites her arm and breaks it, but she summons her mace and it opens as electricity builds up. Emerald arrives and helps Nora walk away. Nora screams that they can't leave Fran, but Emerald says they can't let her sacrifice be in vain. Fran declares her Noble Phantasm's name, "Blasted Tree!" The two are engulfed in a massive electrical explosion.

Everyone comes and they see Heracles' body has been blown to bits, but while Fran's body is intact, her dress is burned, the metal attached to her head is warped and broken, and she is not breathing. Nora screams it can't end this way, then gets an idea. She puts her hands on Fran's chest and pumps electricity into her heart. She is exhausted, but it works and Fran revives. Everyone is glad.

Suddenly, Heracles' body starts to pull itself together and regenerate. Horrified, they start running back to the ship. Drake looks back and summons a ship in midair, where it falls on his still reforming body and squashes it. Emerald asks if she had lost her mind as now they can't escape the island, but she says she has more than one ship. Just as they reach the shore and get on the ship, Heracles finishes regenerating and frees himself. Drake says it's payback time, then summons an armada of ships. She calls her Noble Phantasm's name, "Golden Wild Hunt!" The ships all fire their cannons at the island and reduce it to rubble. The armada disappears as she comments that was a crazy adventure. She starts sailing the ship back to the mainland.

Neo, with a mischievous smirk, pulls Jekyll into a room and locks the door. While Robin comments he's glad nobody died, Emerald attempts to confess to him, but he walks off without hearing her and enters a room. She sighs and says they can talk later, then helps Nora and Fran enter a room. Kiyohime tells Ren he should go in and talk to Nora. She waits outside for a few minutes, worried, but he comes out and kisses her, making her cry tears of joy. Inside, Emerald asks Nora why she gave Ren up. Nora says Kiyohime was right about one thing: Ren doesn't belong to her. Ren and Kiyohime love each other, and if he is happy, she is happy. Nora, Emerald, and Fran rest on the beds as Emerald says she's looking forward to some normal classes for a change.
