Recap / Fates Collide Ch 21 Dojo Showdown

Go To

As Archer and Cinder walk out of his mother's castle, he is annoyed after hearing Mercury lost his legs and he has to repair them again. He tells her Ruby has silver eyes, but she says she has done research and Ruby is nothing special, so she concludes her silver eyes are a genetic inheritance from her mother and nothing more. He comments with all her talk about power, she should get a hobby. She admits she sews in her spare time.

He gets annoyed when his father Kiritsugu walks up and asks to speak with Cinder alone. She tells him to go on ahead and she will catch up. Kiritsugu demands to know what her game is. She feigns ignorance, but he says if she ever steps out of line, he will shoot her, and his bullets are special and are a nightmare for people with powers. He gets a phone call and quickly says he has to leave as an emergency has come up that requires his attention. She staggers away, as Kiritsugu's attitude and threat terrified her.

In the courtyard, Ruby and Astolfo are in their combat gear as they wait for their fight with Cinder and Archer. Weiss and Marie are with them asking if they have a plan, but they claim they'll just make it up as they go. Astolfo eats a cherry and ties the stem into a knot with his tongue. Ruby says Yang can do that too, but won't teach her, and he says she'll learn when she is older. Nero shows up and confronts Ruby about her ability to make rose petals. When she learns Nero can do it too, she comments she thought only her mother and herself could do it. Ruby's class card says her rose petal ability is Rank EX. Nero is utterly shocked, because her own ability is only Rank A, and stands there with a blank look on her face. Ruby doesn't understand what just happened, so Marie and Weiss tell the two to go to their match while they look after Nero. Marie comments Ruby is really innocent.

Yang, Mordred, Blake, and Atalanta go to their next class in a dojo. Shoes are not allowed. The teachers are Taiga Fujimura, who wears a gi and carries a bamboo sword, and Li Shuwen, who wears a black and red outfit similar to Ren's. Yang complains about them having to wear a gym outfit of a white shirt and blue shorts. Blake asks Atalanta about the teachers, and she says they are from a foreign land. Okita Souji comes in wearing a short kimono, black scarf, and black padding on her arms and legs. Oda Nobunaga comes in wearing her regular outfit and playing a game on her scroll. Medusa comes in wearing a sweater and sweatpants, and her blindfold is replaced by glasses. The last girl has short white hair and wears the gym outfit, and glares at Blake.

Yang complains about most of the other girls not having to wear the gym outfit and wonders what the last girl's problem is. Atalanta sighs and explains she is Penthesilea, who hates girls who capture Achilles' attention. Yang teases Blake about this and asks if she is cheating on Sun Wukong, but Blake says she has no idea what she is talking about. The teachers say there will be three fights between the two groups. The first will be a one on one archery contest, the second will be a one on one sword fight, and the third will be a two on two hand to hand combat. The group with the most wins will get the higher score.

Nobunaga says she will do the archery and Okita will do the sword fight, and cheers Okita up by saying with the arrival of Jaune Arc, she is no longer the weakest Saber. Medusa asks Penthesilea why she is mad at Blake just for talking to Achilles. She says every time he talks to another girl, he is insulting her. Ever since he beat her in a fight, she perceives him as looking down on women. She will prove she is stronger than all other women, then she will fight him again and destroy him. Medusa gets creeped out and says there is something wrong with her thought process.

Yang suggests Atalanta do the archery, Mordred do the sword fight, and Blake and herself do the hand to hand combat, but Atalanta tells Mordred and Blake to switch. Mordred is offended by this, but Atalanta says to trust her. The fight begins and Nobunaga and Atalanta are handed wooden bows with dummy arrows. Nobunaga asks what is this and the teachers say Noble Phantasms are not allowed. Nobunaga, who thought she would be allowed to use her guns, says that is stupid. Taiga calls her a fool and says they all need to master the basics in case there is a time they cannot access their Noble Phantasm. The first person to hit the other wins. Nobunaga tries to fire an arrow, but due to being unfamiliar with using a bow, she uses improper technique and the arrow falls to the ground when she lets go of it. Atalanta then fires an arrow that knocks her hat off, winning the round. Nobunaga gets angry and says this class is dumb before returning to her seat.

Blake and Okita are handed bamboo swords. Mordred now understands why Atalanta wanted them to switch, as she has no experience with bamboo swords. The first person to land a hit wins. Okita is so fast that she is practically invisible, putting Blake on the defensive. Blake attempts to use her Shadow Clones, but before she can, Okita starts appearing and disappearing while chanting, "One silent step. Two steps infinite. Three steps, a sword absolute. Three Stage Thrust!" She reappears behind Blake, her sword warped and bent out of shape. Blake wonders what just happened before collapsing in pain after getting hit in the chest three times in an instant. The two teams are tied one victory apiece. Okita then starts coughing up blood, saying it happens whenever she overexerts herself. Then she gets really upset when everyone notices Nobunaga was on her scroll and wasn't paying attention to the fight. Blake volunteers to take Okita to the infirmary.

As the last fight begins, Atalanta warns Yang and Mordred that Penthesilea is a Berserker and Medusa is unusually strong for a Rider. Yang clashes with Penthesilea, and asks her to stop glaring at Blake whenever she sees her. She says Blake is nothing to her, because if she lost to Okita, she is weak. Medusa effortlessly dodges Mordred's attacks and comments on her lack of skill. She pins Mordred and twists her arm, making her scream. Yang attempts to assist her, but Penthesilea grabs her hair and slams her into a wall, seemingly knocking her out. Mordred dislocates her own arm to escape the hold, then punches Medusa with her other arm to knock her out.

Penthesilea tells Mordred to give up as she can't beat her with one arm, but Yang revives and gives her a bloody nose, saying that's payback for grabbing her hair. The two exchange several more punches until they finally knock each other out. Since Mordred is the last one standing, her team wins 2-1. Nobunaga manages to wake Medusa up, while Atalanta pops Mordred's arm back into place. Medusa picks Penthesilea up and her team leaves. Atalanta and Mordred pick Yang up and leave. Mordred doesn't understand why Yang got so upset over getting her hair pulled. Atalanta says it's natural considering Mordred doesn't take care of her own hair. She suggests she get some advice from Yang on hair care, so that people will actually start calling her a woman. Mordred tells her to shut up. The teachers tell them they are always welcome to train there.
