Recap / Dragons Riders Of Berk S 8 E 7 Ruff Transition

Go To

After a rumor spreads that the Hunters are heading for the Wingmaidens to grab Hiccup's cache of lenses, the Riders head to Wingmaiden Island to move the cache to another safe place. While there, they witness the Razorwhip graduation, where the flock of Razorwhips leaves their guardians, and a new clutch of babies take their place. One of the newborns takes a liking to Ruffnut, and thus she begins to train to become a Wingmaiden.

Tropes:

  • Death By Genre Savvy: Downplayed. Given his history with the Wingmaidens and his eagerness to be there, Hiccup is especially sure that it will be Snotlout who wreaks havoc, when actually it was the twins, and they did not even mean it this time.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Tuffnut points out that he should be a Wingmaiden (or a Wingman, in a technical sense) because he was the one who discovered new effective ways to raise Razorwhips, and is only denied for being male.
  • Imprinting: The process of Razorwhips selecting their respective Wingmaidens comes across as this.
  • Mandatory Motherhood: Ruffnut is more or less forced to become the baby Razorwhip's surrogate mother and join the Wingmaidens despite having neither the instincts or any interest in doing so. Even though she doesn't quite develop a maternal bond at the end, she does soften towards Wingnut.
  • Take Our Word for It: We don't see how Tuffnut 'placed' chewed up fish into Ruffnut's mouth, but we do see the reaction of the others.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: Ruffnut is shown to feed Wingnut this way, after Tuffnut chews up a fish and places it in her mouth.
