First Aired - February 23, 1967

Sergeant Joe Friday and Officer Bill Gannon are working in the Frauds Division, Bunco Section. A bunch of elderly people have been cheated out of their savings by two men who pose as bank examiners, saying that they are trying to catch crooked tellers. Friday and Gannon are not having much luck due to the age of the victims, all over 70, making the fake examiners harder to catch.

Just the Tropes, ma'am:

  • Con Man: Frank Thomas and James Fremont are professionals. They worked in Seattle with the same plan for a while then moved to LA.
  • Cops Need the Vigilante: This is how Friday and Gannon catch the con artists in the act. When the fake bank examiners call Mrs. Gray, she made an excuse about waiting for a long distance call but to call in a half hour. Mrs. Gray called the police to help catch them. She is thrilled to be helping the cops and helps them in any way she can. Gannon poses as her son to catch them in the act.
  • Elder Abuse: Thomas and Fremont target the elderly people because it makes it harder to be identified due to the majority of them having poor eyesight.
  • Impersonating an Officer: More like impersonating a bank official. The crooks even come with their own badges.
