Tropes in this episode include:

  • Bait-and-Switch: At first it seems that the Cyan Team will present a sad song, after Gabby saying that she has a lot of pain and anguish to express, and getting in charge of writing the song, but "Piggyback" turns out to be a very upbeat song.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: For the challenge, the three teams dress in costumes with chromatic arrangements that correspond to their team's name (every member of the Team Cyan has at least one cyan/blue piece of clothing or accessory, all members of Team Magenta have at least one magenta/pink piece of clothing or accessory, and all members of Team Yellow have a yellow/orange color scheme that shows in their clothes, face/body paint, and hair).
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: A couple members of Yellow Team notice the faulty lights throughout their performance. Sure enough, as soon as their song ends, one of the lights falls on Yul's foot.
  • Foreshadowing: Connor singing the verse "Living the moment 'til I die" during his team's musical number could be seen as foreshadowing to his elimination.
  • Irony: After Cyan Team's musical act, Aiden says in a confessional that it felt weird kissing Tom, but that he's sure that James will be chill with it and that everyone could see that it was just for the challenge. Then his confessional immediately cuts to a confessional where Jake says that he was right about Tom and Aiden all along, showing that he, in fact, couldn't see that it was just for the challenge.
  • Karma Houdini: The Yellow Team's loss was entirely Riya's fault, yet she didn't receive a single vote against her.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Ellie came up with the idea of having two couples kiss for their musical number not because she thought it would look good, but because she knew that seeing Tom and Aiden kiss would spite Jake.
  • Musical Episode: For this episode's challenge, the three teams have to put together and present a musical number.
  • Publicity Stunt Relationship: At the beginning of the episode it's revealed that Yul and Grett's relationship is this for Yul. After hurting Grett's feeling in the last episode, Emily is contacted by Yul's manager and she forces Yul to fix the relationship. To make everything worse, Grett isn't aware of this, and she thinks Yul truly loves her.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
    • The circuit box available in Tipiskaw isn't prepared to withstand dozens of spotlights. After a few minutes, it overloads and short circuits.
    • After causing the circuit box to short circuit and causing a fire that damaged lots of material that belogs to the production, Krystal is justifiably mad at the Yellow Team, and declares them the losing team.
  • Too Dumb to Live: RIYA. She insists of putting too many powerful lights for the Yellow Team's musical number, even after being warned that the circuit box is probably going to overload. She doesn't listen, and by the end of their song, the lights catch fire. While no one gets injuried (or worse), this makes Krystal declare the Yellow Team the losers of this episode's challenge.
  • The Unreveal: The judges scores are never revealed, so the audience never learns what team would've won the challenge.
