Recap / Dinosaurs S 02 E 01 The Golden Child

Go To

While nobody is watching him, Baby Sinclair raids the refrigerator, eating all of the sweets that he can, then goes flying around the room, resulting in getting a bump on the head. The bump soon grows into a golden horn. Earl is initially embarrassed by this, especially as his co-workers tease Earl about it, but then some ancient dinosaurs summon the baby to them. While there, Earl learns that Baby is the king, as a prophecy has predicted. Earl is proud of his son's newfound royalty, but then learns that he has to let them keep the Baby to rule the world. Earl misses the Baby, and decides to go to see him. Earl is only allowed a short amount of time, so he apologizes for the fact that he didn't spend more time with him. When he has to go, he has to tap on the baby's horn, which then breaks off. With the horn gone, the Baby is no longer the king, but the Baby doesn't care.

Includes examples of

  • Bait-and-Switch: Earl's co-workers, in a scene referencing the three wise men who gave gifts to Baby Jesus, give the Baby gifts: spices from the north, silk from the east... and a toy fire truck.
  • Bookends: This episode begins and ends with Baby watching "Ask Mister Lizard".
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Showing up after the Baby's horn is announced to make him a king, and after having made fun of him for it earlier, Earl's co-workers show up with gifts. Earl sarcastically calls them "the three wise guys", and they each bring gifts.
  • First Appearance: Mr. Lizard and Timmy.
  • Picked Last: When discussing his short arms, Roy asks Earl why he always gets picked last for the bowling teams. And when asking Baby, whom he thinks now has magical powers, to make his arms bigger, one of his reasons is because he wants to be picked first for bowling.
  • Sugar Causes Hyperactivity: Baby Sinclair raids the fridge, and the animals inside feed him all the sweets they have, including pouring raw sugar straight down his gullet. This causes Baby to literally fly around the house, eventually hitting his head and getting a bump.
  • Wham Line: Throughout the series, Baby has always called Earl "Not the Mama!". When his horn starts coming off, what does Baby say to show he wants to go back to the Sinclair family? "Daddy."
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Baby actually shows some signs of being a capable leader, as he gives Roy good advice about his "short arms" problem. (They're what make him unique, and Baby likes them.)
