Recap / Cross Ange Ep 9 Traitorous Homeland

Go To

  • Ironic Echo: A symbolic variety. In the past, Hildegard's mother gave her home-made apple pie to her then 6-year-old daughter as a token of love. In the present, it's given as a warm gesture of welcome under the mistaken belief that this young lady is her second daughter's friend. After Hildegard reveals who she is to her mother, she throws the apple pie at her in hostility. The "ironic" part is how a symbol of the love they once shared is being used to signify that her love for the original Hildegard have gone out the window, and Hildegard is not welcome.
  • Meaningful Name: This episode is aptly named. In a cruel twist, everyone Ange and Hildegard escaped Arzenel to see ends up turning on them. Ange's old friend readily believes Ange is a bloodthirsty killer, and Sylvia hates her former sister and has her arrested. Meanwhile, Hildegard's mother treats her original daughter like a pariah the moment she learns her identity. All in all, both parties prove to be part of a "traitorous homeland".
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Ten years ago, Hildegard's mother was such a kindly woman who loved her daughter, made her apple pie, and protested her being taken to Arzenel when she was discovered to be a norma. In the span of that time, she's changed a great deal. She's had a daughter to altogether replace Hildegard, and when she learns she's in the company of her original daughter, she snaps at her and throws the apple pie at her.
