Go To

The crew discuss the eccentricity of Camille Flammarion, while Matt goes all northern.Article of Conversation: Camille Flammarion

Tropes:

  • File Mixup: Tom netioning that Camille was both an astronomer and Sci-Fi writer. Gary then proposes this setup:
Gary: "I have a manuscript here of my important scientific work! And my one here about men with bumfaces from Venus! But they both went to the same printer on the same day in the same envelope!"
  • I See Dead People: A tangent in the episode involves Gary relaying an anecdote of them visiting a spiritualist service while slightly drunk, and how he admits that they'll be impressed at their cold reading, if nothing else, but gets deeply underwhelmed at the results.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Played for Laughs: Matt is apparently how all the world gets sorted, and Matt briefly mimes asking NASA to put narrowboats on Mars.
  • Running Gag: France being the subject of their teasing, again:
Gary: "The wheel spins, and it lands on France"
Chris: "Again. The wheel is 50% France!"
  • Shout-Out: To both Charles Darwin and Rudyard Kipling.
  • Toilet Humor: Matt suggests the movement Flammarion was a part of was a bowel movement, something Tom is annoyed about so much he asks Christ to "save us" from the jokes.
  • Verbal Backspace: Tom when mentioning the canals on Mars:
Tom: "There are two possible explanations for the canals-"
    Gary: "One; they're canals..."
Tom: "There are three... but one that was definitely wrong!"
