Tropes

  • Accidental Murder: The victim had a heart condition that meant being startled could kill him instantly. He had medicine for it, but it caused impotence and he stopped taking it. The killer didn't know about his condition, surprised him, and he dropped. It's not murder, because there was no premeditation, it's not manslaughter because there was no intent, and it's not negligent homicide because a reasonable person wouldn't expect that action to kill. At worse the killer would be guilty of crimes related to disposing of the body, but there probably wouldn't be a conviction there.
  • Artistic Licence – Biology: In-universe. Brennan takes issue with a show about vegetables having a character that is corn, seeing as that is a grain.
  • Stylistic Suck: Clark's attempt at mystery writing. We only hear a little of it, such as a hilariously redundant description of a dead body and an accidental rephrasing of the line "Old MacDonald had a farm", but Hodgins, Angela and Cam all say it's terrible. Shockingly, he manages to get it published.
