Bone: Old Man's Cave is the sixth volume in Bone, consisting of issues 33-37. It is the third and final volume in the Solstice Trilogy.

Summary

The Valley is at war, and fighting is everywhere. While Thorn and the Bones try to figure out what to do, the Hooded One makes their move to capture Phoney, believing the "one who bears a star" can help him free their master- the Lord of the Locusts.

This volume has examples of

  • Cerebus Retcon: Fone Bone reveals to Thorn that he and his cousins are orphans. Phoney's money-grubbing ways were developed from them growing up on the streets of Boneville.
  • Chekhov's Gag: Remember that giant balloon Phoney had at his disastrous campaign picnic? Turns out that is the Hooded One's omen.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Thorn theorizes that the Hooded One wants Phoney for his manipulative ways, citing how he turned the Barrelhaven villagers against Gran'ma Ben and the Dragon. As it turns out, it's because of the Chekhov's Gag above.
  • Samus Is a Girl: The Hooded One is revealed to be a woman, and Gran'ma Ben's Evil Twin sister Briar to boot.
  • Signs of Disrepair: The giant Phoney balloon Briar took as an omen has a torn banner attached that reads "PHONICIPLE P. BONE WILL GET YOU" according to Phoney, it's supposed to say, "PHONICIPLE P. BONE WILL GET YOUR VOTE"
