Bone: Ghost Circles is the seventh volume of Bone, consisting of issues 38-43. It is the first book in the Harvest Trilogy.

Summary

Having survived the Hooded One's ritual to free the Lord of the Locusts, our heroes now have a new problem. Large areas called Ghost Circles now cover the Valley, and walking into one could mean instant death. Gran'ma Ben believes help can be found in the city of Atheia, but reaching it may not be so easy, as the Hooded One is still out there...

This volume has examples of

  • The Bus Came Back: Bartleby, the Rat Creature cub Smiley befriended, returns and pulls a Heel–Face Turn to save the gang.
  • Foreshadowing: When Thorn becomes ill from using too much of the Locust piece to enter Ghost Circles, being in the dragons' burial ground of Tanen Gard somehow heals her.
  • I'm a Man; I Can't Help It: When talking about being "indiscreet" with Rose and Briar, Lucius admits, "You'd have to be a priest to be discreet at that age."
  • Imperfect Ritual: Because Briar tried to use Phoney and not Thorn to free the Lord of the Locust, it was only a partial release. This means that the people trapped in Ghost Circles are not dead, but stuck in a painful, immaterial state.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: When arguing over who's at fault for their current troubles, Phoney points out that the Hooded One now wants Fone Bone to complete freeing the Lord of the Locust, because Fone Bone now has a piece of the Locust inside of him. Smiley realizes that this is true.
