Barney Calhoun works as a security guard for the Black Mesa Military Research complex. His assignment being to preserve facility equipment and materials along with watching over the welfare of research personal. He begins his usual day of work riding the tram from the dormitory wing's employee resting quarters to the entrance of the Area 3 Security Facilities.
This Chapter contains examples of:
- The Cameo: Near the end of the tram ride, you can spot Gordon Freeman waiting at the station for his tram to arrive that will take him to the Anomalous Materials lab.
- Easing into the Adventure: Similar to the original game, it starts with a slow atmospheric opening riding a tram to work.
- Morning Routine: Calhoun basically starts his day of work by riding the Black Mesa tram from the employee resting quarters to the Area 3 security office.
- Opening Scroll: Similar to the original game, the player gets a bit of text telling them who their character is.
- Scenic-Tour Level: Similar to the original game, this chapter is a slow but eye-opening tram ride through the Black Mesa facility. Only the journey starts earlier than Gordon's trip where Calhoun starts from the employee resting quarters, and you pass by several new areas that show off how the employees live their life within the facility, like seeing a laundry room and a restaurant. Calhoun's tram tour basically ends right where Gordon starts his tour trip in the original game.
