- Always a Bigger Fish: As big and bad as Low was, Vane was bigger and badder.
- Dead Guy on Display: Ned Low's head is mounted on a pike on the beach for all to see after Vane kills him, with a sign posted underneath saying "I Angered Charles Vane."
- Establishing Character Moment: Jenks, Vane's second in command, makes his first proper appearance in the show when he undermines Vane in front of Ned Low and questions his authority, a trend that will continue for the rest of the season.
- Friendly Fire: As they are sailing in a Spanish warship, Flint plans to anchor the ship off of New Providence and take a launch ahead in order to warn the fort and avoid this scenario.
- Karmic Death: Vane kills Low by slowly cutting his head off with a knife, the exact same way he murdered Meeks.
- The Reveal: Vane reveals to Eleanor who Low's hostage is and why she is so valuable: she is Abigail Ashe, the daughter of the governor of the Carolinas, Lord Peter Ashe.
- A Threesome Is Hot: To celebrate reconciling with Vane and becoming recognised pirates again, Anne invites Jack to join her and Max in bed. He naturally accepts.
