  • Amusing Injuries: Van Driessen gets thrown out of the bus and lands in the gorge. He also gets hit by the ambulance and a police car as the chopper carries him back down.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The episode treats Van Driessen's fall with so much gravitas that it leads the viewer into assuming he's dead, with his "Touch a Mountain" song playing as the helicopter carries him up. Then he's swung into the vehicles and screams in agony, proving he's still alive.
  • Comedic Sociopathy: Beavis and Butt-Head are quite amused when Van Driessen gets injured on the gorge.
Butt-Head: This was a pretty cool field trip.
Beavis: Yeah, it's like I really learned something.
  • Comically Missing the Point: As Beavis and Butt-Head are being punished for provoking other drivers, they think the bus driver is allowed to do so because he is in front of the white line, not because he is an adult and not a student.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Beavis and Butt-Head believe they are allowed to harass other drivers if they are in front of the white line, like the bus driver.
  • Made of Iron: Van Driessen somehow survives not only crashing out the glass window but also landing in the gorge.
  • Mooning: Beavis and Butt-Head do this to the other drivers, prompting Van Driessen to punish them by making them sit in the front.
  • Oh, Crap!: The bus driver when he realizes that he missed the turn, causing him to slam the brakes. He subsequently does another, more horrified one after seeing Van Driessen crash through the windshield.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Van Driessen stands up while the bus is in motion, resulting in him falling out into the gorge when the bus is grinded to a halt.
