- During Dick's flashback to Ivy's active villain days, she's shown wearing a jacket and full leggings instead of her usual mainstream leotard.
- The trope also applies to Dick himself, as his flashback shows him wearing shorts as Robin instead of the typical legless briefs.
- Affably Evil: Ivy is willing to pause her evil speech and let Batman fish Robin out of the Venus fly trap and lecture him about not wandering off during missions.
- Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Dick ruffles Damian's hair when the latter calls him Too Dumb to Live.
- Comically Missing the Point: Despite the fact that he was almost eaten twice, the part of the story that upsets Dick is the fact that Batman benched him as Robin for a while.
- Eco-Terrorist: The flashback takes place back before Ivy's modern-day reformation. Batman mentions her attacking a chemical plant and killing people, and she retorts that they had it coming for attacking the earth.
- Flashback: The episode mostly focuses on a mission from when Dick was still a child.
- Getting Eaten Is Harmless: Dick gets chomped by Ivy's flytrap twice with no ill effects (though admittedly Batman pulled him out both times before more than a few seconds passed). He even claims it tickled.
- Lame Pun Reaction: In the flashback, Ivy says she's not even going to respond to Dick's puns.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Normally, Dick isn't embarrassed by anything (his name, his past as a circus performer, his old costumes, etc). So the fact that he doesn't want to tell the story about how he got banned from fighting Poison Ivy tells Damian that it's a really good story.
- Shmuck Bait: Robin can't resist poking one of Ivy's plants, which tries to eat him. After Batman gets him out and returns to his Kirk Summation, Robin pokes it again, with the same result.
- Too Dumb to Live: By the time he's heard the whole story and Dick's current-day lamentation that his punishment wasn't fair, Damian questions how his older brother lived long enough to meet him.
