Recap / Bar Rescue S 3 E 24 Hurricane Jon Vs Hurricane Sandy

Go To

The Bungalow Bar at Rockaway, New York was one of the establishments hit by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. With funds to repair the bar running dry and the Memorial Day weekend coming close, the owners call on Jon to help get their business back on its feet.

Episode Tropes:

  • The Cameo: Brad and Steve from the Turtle Bay episode come in before the relaunch to give the owners new bar glasses.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: The Bungalow Bar reopens on time for the Memorial Day weekend and to this day, it's still open.
  • Hot-Blooded: The five owners are brothers and a close friend who butt heads over little things, making it all surprising that the bar did not suffer from it prior to Hurricane Sandy. Part of Jon's rescue is to get the brothers to iron out their differences.
  • It's Personal: Jon deems this rescue one as he is helping fellow New Yorkers bring back an establishment that was nearly lost due to a natural disaster.
  • Race Against the Clock: Most Bar Rescue episodes always have a five-day crunch time to train the staff, iron out the problems, and renovate the bar with a new concept. Here, Jon has to do all of that including rebuilding the Bungalow Bar before the Memorial Day weekend comes.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: The novelty cup they use is pretty simplistic with a flashing light at the bottom, but it actually has a practical use in alerting staff they want a refill.
  • Take a Third Option: Earlier in the episode, the brothers argued about a bar table door on whether or not to put a hook on it. Jon tells them to get rid of the door as it does nothing to help with business.
  • A Very Special Episode: This episode is unique amongst the series. Instead of being about helping a failing bar get better, this episode features Jon helping to rebuild a bar that was wrecked by Hurricane Sandy and has run out of funds. He does a bit of improvement with the staff and décor, but it isn't a case of making a bad bar good; rather, it's making a good bar better.
