In the year 848, two years before the battle for Trost, the members of the 104th are participating in an unsupervised training exercise. However, unknown to them, a band of thieves have arrived with the intent to steal the ODM gear. Kidnaping Krista as well, the thieves run off with the gear. Now unarmed, the 104th decide to rescue their friend and take back their gear from the thieves.
Tropes:
- Big Damn Heroes: Just when it looks like the 104th's will be forced to surrender their gear to the thieves once again Mikasa and Annie arrive from the trees to knock their weapons out of the thieves' hands and save Krista's life.
- Call-Forward: Marco mentions at the end of the episode that Jean is much more suited to be a leader then he is. Naturally Eren is sceptical.
- Damsel in Distress: Krista is kidnapped by the thieves at about midway through the episode first as leverage then as their bounty once the 104th's retrieve their gear.
- How We Got Here: The episode opens with one of the kidnappers holding a knife to Krista's throat while Jean and Eren's group can only look on. The episode then flashes back a few hours to show how everyone got to that point.
- Interquel: Much like the previous two OVA's this one takes place between episodes 3 and 4 in this case during the 104th's first year of training.
- Out of Focus: The team which contains Mikasa, Annie, Reiner, Bertolt and Thomas get very little focus in this OVA. The OVA focuses on Eren, Jean, Armin, Marco, Sasha, Connie and Krista's group.
- Rivals Team Up: Eren and Jean work together in order to retrieve their ODM gear and take out the carriage holding the lead kidnappers. And, while it's not focused on, Mikasa and Annie also work together to take down the kidnappers holding Krista hostage.
- Unusual Chapter Numbers: Once again this OVA is giving a unusual episode designation in this case being episode 3.75.
