Recap / Arrested Development S4E6 "Double Crossers"

Go To

George and Lucille's plan to build The Wall hits a bump in the road when George discovers that the property George bought from Oscar is actually located about fifty feet from the Mexican border.

Tropes:

  • Brick Joke: The map of the US and Mexico that was shown as the first shot of "Borderline Personalities" is a map drawn by Buster during his cartography classes, and what Oscar used when he bought the property, explaining why he didn't realise that the land is actually fifty feet from the real border.
  • Call-Back: To "Let Them Eat Cake":
GOB: I'm not a limo driver, I'm a gentleman honey farmer. The only thing I've got back there are my bees.
    George: Beans?
    GOB: No, bees.
    George: Bees?!
    GOB: Bees!
George: (the bees escape from the back seat of the car) BEES!
  • Circular Drive: George and Buster drive around a silo a few times, attempting to pass it off as the wall.
  • Gender Bender: Of the emotional, non-physical variety. George eventually becomes much more feminine and begins permanently wearing a red wig as a result of a immense decrease in testosterone and an increase in oestrogen. The final scene of the episode shows him adjusting to life as a woman.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: George Sr does everything in his power to get Herbert Love to fund the construction of The Wall, only to discover that the property he owns is fifty feet from the border.
