Recap / Adventures Of The Gummi Bears S 1 E 13 Night Of The Gargoyle

Go To

For Monarch's Day, King Gregor receives a mysterious gift by someone claiming to be the Gummi Bears. However, the Gummis no nothing about sending the gift: a gargoyle statue said to bring luck. However, it turns out that the gargoyle was sent by Duke Ightorn, and it's actually a bewitched statue that comes to life at night. Can Zummi, Cubbi, and Sunni help Cala stop it before it harms the king?

Tropes:

  • Blind Without 'Em: The gargoyle steals Zummi's glasses, leaving Zummi blind for a small portion of the episode.
  • Brick Joke: When Gregor is nearly hit by a vase that the gargoyle knocked off a shelf, he chalks it up to old castles always needing fixing. After the chandelier lands on his bed, he makes the same remark.
  • Exact Words: As Igthorn says, his note didn't say whether or not the luck the gargoyle would bring Gregor would be good or bad.
  • Falling Chandelier of Doom: The gargoyle tries to kill Gregor by dropping the chandelier hanging over his bed on him. Fortunately, Zummi stops the gargoyle before it can gnaw through the rope completely so it doesn't fall until Gregor is out of bed.
  • Literally Shattered Lives: After the Gummis defeat the gargoyle and turn it back into stone, Cubbi suggests doing this to it. Zummi has a better idea though. See A Taste Of His Own Medicine.
  • Living Weapon: According to Zummi, the gargoyle had been created by a fiendish wizard years ago and was made to cause havoc whenever the light of a full moon shined on it.
  • Our Gargoyles Rock: The gargoyle, which resembles a gremlin more than a gargoyle.
  • Parrot Exposition: A lot of the gargoyle's speech is it repeating what it hears others say.
  • Taken for Granite: The gargoyle turns back into a harmless statue when Zummi hits it with a daylight spell.
  • A Taste Of His Own Medicine: After Zummi turns the gargoyle back to stone, he sends it back to Dreckmore. The unwitting ogres decide to put it in Igthorn's bedroom window, just as another full moon is rising.
