Basic Trope: A character infected with The Virus tries to fight their sire and find a cure.
- Straight: Zack was bitten by a werewolf and is slowly turning into one. He finds silver weapons, gives some to his friends and sets out to kill the original werewolf to save himself.
- Exaggerated: Zack takes his rebellion to the next level: he get silver piercings, drinks wolfsbane milkshakes, and becomes a badass biker to hunt down the werewolf who bit him.
- Downplayed: Zack isn't crazy about becoming a werewolf, avoids hurting innocents, and would like to be cured. However, he isn't about to kill the werewolf who bit him.
- Justified: Zack's entire family was killed by werewolves, and his brother (who also survived the attack) became evil because of it. So he's out for revenge and a cure.
- Inverted:
- Zack kills anyone bitten by a werewolf if they show the slightest hint of hesitation about embracing the werewolf lifestyle. He's nothing but thankful to the werewolf who bit him, and if he finds a cure he'll destroy it.
- Zack actively tries to get himself bitten by a werewolf, wanting to become one himself.
- Subverted: After being bitten by a werewolf, Zack kills the one that bit him, finds a cure... and then lets himself get bitten by a vampire. He's more of a snob than a slob when it comes to Fur Against Fang.
- Double Subverted: ... only for him to reveal he wasn't cured, and wanted the vampire bite because Hybrid-Overkill Avoidance makes two negatives (Werewolf X Vampire) results in a positive (Human).
- Parodied: Zack was bitten by a werewolf, zombie, and a vampire, and he just can't decide which to rebel against first.
- Zig Zagged: Zack alternates between fighting the change and embracing it.
- Averted: The transformation is so fast Zach has no time to resist it, and because it's The Virus he does a Face–Monster Turn.
- Enforced: Zack is the hero, and werewolves are cool, as are rebels. So Zack becomes a werewolf and rebels against that.
- Lampshaded: There's an actual Hunter of Monsters association dedicated to helping and arming the Hunter of His Own Kind. To the point Zack's hunter mentor quips Zack may have to bite a bunch of random people if he wants to keep in business.
- Invoked: Zack threatens the werewolf who bit him with becoming a Vampire Refugee unless he helps him adjust.
- Exploited: The villain Zoey knows Zack is looking for a cure, so she gives him a silver laced "cure" to kill him.
- Defied: Zoey, the werewolf who bit Zack, doesn't want to create her own nemesis. So she romances him before biting him and presents the situation as a way to make their bond stronger. He's now too conflicted to resist properly.
- Discussed: "I Hate You, Vampire Dad!" "Oh, wow, I just had a flashback of my own sire and me. Trust me kid, it's just a phase."
- Conversed: "So, Zack doesn't want to be a werewolf and is fighting the bad ones?" "Yeah, even though it's cured him of cancer."
