Basic Trope: A fear of technology.
- Straight: Bob fears technology. He never gets in cars, doesn't have a smartphone or a laptop, and when he is near technology, he's nervous and has to hide his immense fear.
- Exaggerated: Bob is too frightened to use anything that was invented after the Common Era began, so he lives the life of a man from over 2000 years ago.
- Downplayed: Bob is fine with most technology, but he's afraid of using generative AI or neural networks out of a fear of said AI going rogue.
- Justified:
- Bob is a Conspiracy Theorist who believes that the government can track him through his electronic devices, so he is scared to use them.
- The eldritch computer virus, C.H.A.R.L.I.E., is the setting's Big Bad. It can possess any machine connected to the Internet of Things, so Bob has every right to be concerned.
- Inverted: Alice loves technology to an irrational, unhealthy degree.
- Subverted: Bob never gets in cars and doesn't have a smartphone or a laptop... because he's penniless and does not own his own car. He can't afford to drive, much less purchase electronics.
- Double Subverted: Bob wins the lottery and buys himself a nice house. Once he moves in, he's still too afraid to use a computer.
- Parodied: Bob is a software developer.
- Zig-Zagged: ???
- Averted:
- No one has a phobia of technology.
- The setting the characters are in has barely, if any technology.
