    Gameplay Elements Reflected in Story
  • Straight: In Advanced Tropes, Alice discovers alien technology that grants her an unprecedented level of perception. All User Interface Elements that are not natural is explained by her alien tech. She can now see enemies through walls, see their “Health Points” and weak points, analyze mundane objects, etc.
  • Exaggerated: Alice has also found an alien armor suit, which allows her to sprint without fatigue and double jump. Her gun is linked to her helmet which gives her a reticle on screen and the ability to view how much ammo she has...
  • Downplayed: The alien tech will add things to the user interface and menus, but the player was already able to see through walls and health points before she obtained the tech.
  • Justified: The technology was created for alien soldiers to keep track of their vitals and other important information in combat.
  • Inverted: See Type 2.

    Story Elements Reflected in Gameplay
  • Straight: Bob is attacked by a gargoyle and cut deep in the chest before the level starts. As a result, his hit points are lowered at first and his stamina meter has been significantly reduced.
  • Exaggerated: Bob had sex with his wife right before leaving. His movements are ever so slightly altered to reflect this, but only for the first minute. By the time the gargoyle comes to attack it flicks some dust in Bob's face before the fight starts, and you, The player, are greeted with a screen covered in sand and gravel before the second cutscene starts.
  • Downplayed: Bob takes a tumble and starts the mission at 95/100 hit points
  • Justified: Well, Bob was injured.
  • Inverted: See Type 1.
  • Subverted: Bob risks heat stroke in the desert - but in hotter volcanoes he is fine without any magical protection.
  • Double Subverted: It turns out that was because the god, The Worldsmith blessed him with protection from heat of magma.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: It's up in the air whether the events during any given cutscene will affect the gameplay.
  • Averted: Gameplay and Story Segregation
  • Enforced: This is part of a ploy by the higher-ups to win some "Best Attention to Detail" award, thereby hopefully giving this game greater publicity.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???

  • Conversed: "I like the attention to detail where the wound lowers Bob's stats."

  • Reconstructed: ???
  • Played for Laughs: ???
  • Played for Drama: ???
  • Played for Horror: Selling your soul will result in your character becoming an enemy NPC - you did forsake your free will to evil after all.
