Basic Trope: A character gets drunk and sees more than one of the same thing/person/animal.
- Straight: Alice is drunk and says to Bob, "There's two of you!".
- Exaggerated: Alice somehow sees five Bobs.
- Downplayed: We get to see what Bob looks like from Alice's point of view while she's drunk, and while there is a slight doubling, he doesn't outright look like two Bobs.
- Justified: Drunkenness does sometimes cause people to see double.
- Inverted:
- Alice has a lazy eye that corrects itself when she's drunk for some reason.
- There really is two of Bob, due to cloning or Temporal Duplication or whatever, but Alice, who is drunk, only sees one.
- Subverted:
- It turns out that Alice was not drunk, but just dizzy from having been spun around.
- It turns out that there really is two of Bob.
- Double Subverted:
- She's lying because she doesn't want to admit to being drunk.
- Alice didn't see the extra Bob initially and when he makes himself known, she says, "and now there's four of you!".
- Parodied: Alice has three eyes, so she sees triple when drunk.
- Zigzagged: Alice, Bob, Charles, and Diane all get drunk. Alice sees double, Bob's vision becomes blurred but he doesn't see double, Charles somehow sees triple, and Diane sees normally.
- Averted:
- Nobody drinks alcohol.
- Alcohol does not result in seeing double.
- Enforced:
- Lampshaded: "No, Alice, there's not two of me, you're just drunk."
- Invoked: Alice deliberately gets herself drunk to see if she'd see double.
- Exploited:
- Defied: Alice doesn't drink because she doesn't want to see double.
- Discussed: "Do you really see double when you're drunk?"
- Conversed: "She's drunk in this scene. What's to bet she's seeing double?"
- Implied:
- Deconstructed:
- Reconstructed:
- Played for Laughs: Alice tries to introduce herself to "the other Bob".
- Played for Drama: Alice is addicted to alcohol.
