Basic Trope: A character is stated to be kind, but their actions show otherwise.
- Straight: Characters describe Andrew as a nice person, but all he does in the story is being rude to others, participating in bullying, and generally having a surly disposition.
- Exaggerated:
- Other characters describe Andrew as the most saintly person to ever walk the earth, but he all he ever does is acting like a Misanthrope Supreme.
- Designated Hero
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic
- Downplayed:
- Though the narration describes Andrew as nice, he can be a little selfish at times.
- The narration says that Andrew is a decent person going through a rough patch. Said "patch" lasts quite awhile, but he does become a better person.
- Justified:
- The narrator is an Unreliable Narrator and thinks of Andrew as nice even though he is not.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold
- Inverted:
- Informed Meanness: Characters describe Andrew as a massive piece of work, but he's a pretty swell and calm dude on-screen.
- Informed Wrongness
- Subverted:
- Though at first Andrew doesn't live up to his description as a kind person, in further appearances he shows his caring side.
- Andrew's 'unkind actions' turn out to be POV angles mating unrelated events.
- Double Subverted: But then he loses that kindness and reverts back to his nasty self.
- Parodied: Andrew is shown to have somehow the "Good Person Award", even though he acts very badly in the show, and roughly shoves a reporter on his way up to the stage.
- Zig Zagged: Andrew goes back and forth between being kind and mean.
- Averted: Andrew is described as kind, and really is.
- Enforced: The producers tell the writers to describe Andrew as kind in order to portray him as a valuable member of the main gang.
- Lampshaded: "It's annoying how everyone says Andrew is so nice, when he's really a bit of a jerk."
- Invoked: Claire tells everyone that her friend Andrew is nice in order to gain him more popularity.
- Exploited: Andrew uses his reputation as kind in order to win favours from people.
- Defied: Upon seeing that Andrew isn't really as kind as people describe him as, Barry sets out to spread the truth about Andrew.
- Discussed: "I bet Andrew really isn't as nice as people say he is."
- Conversed: "Why do writers describe characters as kind if they don't show it?"
