Basic Trope: Parents who micromanage every aspect and/or detail of their child's lives.

  • Straight: Harold and Alice are Bob's parents, who constantly hover over and around him, and never give him much space to be his own person or do or learn anything by himself.
  • Exaggerated: Harold and Alice has Bob's entire life planned down to the second, putting tracking devices on all his clothes/belongings so they can know what he's doing and who he's with 24/7.
  • Downplayed: Harold and Alice get anxious if Bob leaves the house outside school hours without supervision, and would call him every few minutes to make sure he's okay, but don't go out of the way to keep him from leaving.
  • Justified:
    • It's a Crapsack World and Bob is quite careless, so Harold and Alice have to constantly keep tabs on him to keep him alive.
    • Bob's parents see him as a possession, and their actions are a symptom of that.
    • Bob has a condition that his parents blame themselves for, and they are acting out of guilt.
    • Bob has a disability, and his parents are acting out of the belief that Disabled Means Helpless.
  • Inverted: Harold and Alice lets Bob does whatever he likes, leaves him home alone for extended periods of time, and don't seem to care when he goes of wandering on his own for weeks, or wrecks the house in a Wild Teen Party (if anything, they might be annoyed but not too annoyed at Bob for not inviting them, as they could've made it so much better).
  • Subverted: ???
  • Double Subverted: ???
  • Parodied: Bob's parents literally hover by his side on a helicopter wherever he goes and give unsolicited advice whenever he tries to do anything. Bob treats them as little more than a minor nuisance, however.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Alice and/or Harolds's Parent(s) helicoptered them as children, so (s)he vowed never to make that mistake with their own children.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: **Harold and Alice's excessive control towards their son makes him sheltered and co-dependent, and he is unable to fulfill his own basic needs once they've passed away.
    • Bob eventually gets fed up with his parents' constant vigilance and cuts them both out of his life.
