Basic Trope: Certain minorities are often cast primarily as blue-collar workers.

  • Straight: The White Anglo-Saxon Protestant Davidson family has a Puerto Rican maid, Isabela, and a black gardener, Gregory.
  • Exaggerated: Every family in the Davidsons' neighborhood is white, and they all hired ethnic minorities as "the help".
  • Downplayed: ???
  • Justified: ???
  • Inverted: Isabela and Gregory are a married couple with a white maid.
  • Subverted: Isabela and Gregory are actually white-collar workers married to the Davidsons' son George and daughter Anna. Their racist houseguest just assumed they were the help.
  • Double Subverted: ???
  • Parodied: Anna Davidson gets a job as a nanny. Despite looking obviously like a rich WASP, her employer assumes she's Latina and berates her in Spanish.
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: No menial labor jobs are shown, and if there are, they are not ethnic minorities.
  • Enforced: The producers want to add characters of color to the Dom Com starring the Davidsons, but not in roles that are too major, so Isabela and Gregory are added to the cast.
  • Lampshaded: "Isabela, you're working for a gringo family? How stereotypical!"
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: Gregory is actually an undercover cop spying on the Davidsons. His cover story is as their gardener because they wouldn't look twice at minorities, especially if they're the help.
  • Defied: Although she needs a job, Isabela rejects working for the Davidsons because it's stereotypical.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "How come every maid we see on TV now is Hispanic?"
