Basic Trope: A game is easier or harder depending on the region it's released in.

  • Straight: In the North American release of Amazing Adventure, you can find spaces that restore your party's health around the map. The Japanese release removes these and slightly increases the enemies' stats.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Enemy health multipliers depend on the regional version or language you're playing in. It's 100% in the North American English version, 120% in the European French version, 70% in Japanese, 105% in Castilian Spanish, 90% in the Australian English version...
    • The Japanese version cuts your party's health in half, makes your weapons break faster, and reduces the amount of items you can hold.
  • Downplayed:
    • A particularly difficult mini-game is toned down in the UK release, compared to the North American one.
    • The Japanese version has no difficulty selection, while the North American version has an optional easy mode.
  • Justified:
  • Subverted: The game has a notifier that your experience in-game may depend on the region you are playing in. It turns out to refer to some content that was Dummied Out.
  • Double Subverted: However, this feature is re-added in a later patch.
  • Parodied: The game will brutally kill your character as soon as you start, and say "If you want to play the game, live outside of America."
  • Zig-Zagged: Compared to the Japanese release, the North American version has much lower money drops for enemies. However, some of the shop prices are altered, as well; this will make it overall easier, harder, or the same in some aspects.
  • Averted: The game's difficulty is the same regardless of your region.
  • Enforced: The developers fear that their game will be criticized for being too easy by players in Japan, so they crank up the difficulty.
  • Conversed: "You should try playing the Japanese release of Amazing Adventure if you want a challenge. It's got buffed enemies."
  • Deconstructed: Players in Japan take offense at being given a harder experience, while players in North America complain that the game is too easy, effectively satisfying nobody.
  • Reconstructed: A later patch adds Difficulty Levels, letting you play on either difficulty no matter where you live or which regional version you own. Players are satisfied with the choice, and Amazing Adventure gets better reception.
