Basic Trope: A company's advertisement insults that company's competitor(s).

  • Straight: A Tropington's Pizza commercial insults Alice and Bob's Pizza and Subs.
  • Exaggerated:
    • A Tropington's Pizza commercial insinuates Alice and Bob's Pizza and Subs serves literal crap, and urges its viewers to burn down every Alice and Bob's Pizza and Subs store and kill every worker who works there.
    • The commercial outright lies about Alice and Bob's Pizza and Subs.
  • Downplayed: A Tropington's Pizza commercial says that its food is superior to the food served at Alice And Bob's Pizza and Subs.
  • Justified: Tyrone Tropington, the company's founder, has a personal vendetta against Alice and Bob, and made it his life's mission to destroy their business.
  • Inverted: A Tropington's Pizza commercial insults their own food, and says that their customers should eat at Alice and Bob's Pizza and Subs, instead.
  • Subverted: Tropington's Pizza is a fiction created for advertisements of Alice and Bob's Pizza and Subs.
  • Double Subverted: ???
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: All companies focus on making quality products rather than stooping to negative advertising.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "So now insulting competitors is good now, huh?"
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: "Why do we have to insult our competitor's food? Can't we just tell people how good OUR food is?"
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: "They said some NASTY stuff about Alice and Bob's in that commercial."
  • Deconstructed: Tropington's Pizza is bashed for its insults, and all the customers who frequent Tropington's Pizza begin to frequent Alice and Bob's Pizza and Subs instead.
