Basic Trope: A magic-user's place has a stuffed crocodilian hanging from the ceiling, solely for Rule of Cool.
- Played Straight: Alyssa has in her alchemy shop a taxidermy alligator hanging from the rafters.
- Exaggerated:
- Every alchemist, wizard, witch and assorted practitioner of unusual trades has a stuffed reptile hanging from their ceiling.
- Alyssa has a herpetology textbook's worth of taxidermied reptiles hanging from her rafters — an alligator, a crocodile, an iguana, a monitor lizard, a few types of snakes, a basilisk...
- Justfied:
- Alligators if not crocodilians in general in the setting contain magic properties that are useful to wizards.
- Alyssa uses the alligator via reanimation as a guard/attack dog should enemies get in there.
- Subverted: The alligator starts moving, and Alyssa starts yelling "Albert! Get down here!" Turns out that was her (live) pet that got loose.
- Double Subverted: Albert is a reanimated specimen and isn't technically alive.
- Inverted:
- A magical member of an anthromorphic crocodile race has a taxidermy human being in its shop.
- Alice's Alchemy shop contains everything but an alligator.
- Played for Drama: Thanks to overexploitation from wizards, alligators are an endangered species.
- Played for Horror: Alice is a Serial Killer of Lizard Folk.
