Basic Trope Description: Dead characters go to some kind of waiting room before going into the afterlife.

  • Straight: After death, Alice finds herself in a chamber with other newly dead souls.
  • Exaggerated: There are multiple chambers where the newly dead arrive.
  • Downplayed: Alice goes through a moment of black when she passes on, then she arrives in the afterlife.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted: Alice goes into the afterlife first, and is sent into a special chamber at the end of time.
  • Subverted: After Alice is terribly wounded in a traffic accident, she finds herself in a waiting room. But the accident was All Just a Dream.
  • Double Subverted: She was, nevertheless, sleeping behind the steering wheel and really got into a deadly accident. The waiting room is the antechamber to her afterlife.
  • Enforced: The producers think that only showing an antechamber without the factual afterlife is the best way not to offend any viewer, since everyone can imagine their own idea of an afterlife beyond the veil.
  • Averted: Alice goes to the afterlife immediately after death.
  • Zigzagged: ???
  • Parodied: The antechamber is a waiting room, and Alice is there forever. Turns out it is Hell.
  • Lampshaded: "A waiting room? Hey, did you also experience some event that should have killed you?"
  • Discussed: "Boring here." "I thought the afterlife would be more exciting." "Luckily we won't be here forever."
  • Conversed: "A quite good idea. The Celestial Bureaucracy will be able to sort everything well."
